The Callaway Cavaliers fought back from an 18-point deficit to make a game of it, but it was home-standing Villa Rica escaping with a 69-66 victory on Friday night.

“We fought back,” Callaway head coach Terry Hayes said. “We hit some big threes, and got within one. We had a few turnovers at the end.”

Braylon Sanders led the Cavaliers (3-3) with 20 points, Kedrick Ramsey added 15 points, and Tamarcus Smith scored nine.

In the girls’ game, it was all Villa Rica, which rolled to a 71-38 victory.

Chyna Cameron led Callaway (0-7) with 13 points, and Qua Beasley made two 3-pointers and scored nine.

Callaway’s teams, which were playing their first games in nearly two weeks, will begin their Region 5-AA schedules on Tuesday at home against Heard County.

TROUP: The Lady Tigers delivered a suffocating defensive effort in a 44-24 road win over Heard County on Friday evening.

Heard County was held to single digits in all four quarters, and it managed just 15 points through the first three periods.

Troup was led offensively by Kwyneshia Spence who scored 13 points, and Shaqoya Gilbert and Akhya Mitchell added eight points apiece.

Troup’s defense was dominant in both of its games in Heard County last week.

On Thursday, Troup overwhelmed Mount Pisgah 46-14, and it came through with another strong defensive performance a day later.

It was also a successful two days for the Troup boys’ team, which followed up its thrilling four-overtime win over Mount Pisgah on Thursday by beating Heard County 52-49 on Friday.

Troup’s teams will look to keep it going as they begin Region 5-AAAA play on Tuesday at Chapel Hill.

LAGRANGE: LaGrange, after beating host Heard County 43-37 on Thursday, crushed Mount Pisgah 71-35 on Friday in a girls’ game.

Aryan Dozier led LaGrange with 32 points, Chnaireia Strozier added 15 points, and Chaquavea’ayr Robinson scored 10.

LaGrange begins its Region 5-AAAA schedule at Central-Carroll.
