LAGRANGE – The streak lives.

The Troup High wrestling team made it five consecutive tournament championships by winning the Gary Silva Invitational on Friday at Gardner Newman Middle School.

Leading the way were three individual champions, and Troup had seven total wrestlers make it to the championship round while 11 men placed by finishing fourth or higher.

It was also a successful two days for LaGrange, which had seven wrestlers finish fourth or better, and two of them lost in the finals.

Callaway didn’t have any placers, but it did have a handful of competitors who fared well.

For Troup, it’s been smooth sailing.

Even without standout wrestler Trevor Upchurch, who is out of action with an injury, Troup was still the team to beat, and it easily out-distanced Oxford.

Troup’s individual champions were Darius Hanson, Chase Seals and Byron Butts, and Brantly Robinson, Gavin Wood, Quenton Kersey and Pearson Strickland finished second.

Colby Harry, Scott Hicks and Cade Garner were third, and Trey Harris placed fourth.

“I was proud of the guys,” Troup coach Craig Garner said. “And week to week is constantly learning. We’re breaking it down with each guy, and what their strengths and weaknesses are. If we’re not improving, we’re either remaining stagnant or getting worse, and I think both of them are obviously not good. I’m not walking away displeased, but I see that we’ve still got a long way to go to get to where we want to be, or need to be.”

For LaGrange, Quindon Dunson and John Todd Bohn finished second, De’Erious Sands, Jordan Ragan, Dijon Hart were third, and Chase Sams and Lane Oliver were fourth.
