Man arrested for allegedly assaulting store clerk

One man was taken into custody on Sunday just after 4 a.m. for allegedly attacking a store clerk outside the Pilot Travel Center at 2418 Whitesville Street.

 

The clerk told officers she was smoking a cigarette and noticed someone throw a punch inside a car parked in the lot.

 

She opened the passenger side door and the man cussed at her, got out of the car and punched her in the face, according to the police report.

 

The clerk told police she defended herself and punched him back, the report stated.

 

That is when the man allegedly began to choke her, the report read.

 

The two finally separated and the man and another woman jumped back into the car and left the parking lot at a high rate of speed. A LaGrange police officer was quickly able to catch up with the car and arrested the man, according to the report.

 

He was initially charged with disorderly conduct and obstruction. More charges could be pending, police said.

 

Robbery

 

A robbery was reported around 8:30 a.m. on Sunday by a homeowner in the 900 block of Georgia Avenue.

 

The person told LaGrange Police officers a gold watch and gold chain were taken from the residence.

 

The total value was estimated about $500.

 

Battery

 

  • A woman sustained a fractured nose and several lacerations during an alleged fight with several people inside a home in the 100 block of Dix Street.

 

It happened just after midnight on Monday.

The woman told police she went to the home to settle an argument when her friend, her friend’s mother and another woman began hitting and kicking her, according to the police report.

 

Officers noticed visible injuries on the victim including cuts inside her lower lip and a swollen nose, the report said.

 

Police are still investigating.

 

 

 

  • One man was arrested for allegedly choking his girlfriend inside a home in the 200 block of East Hillside Drive just after 11 p.m. on Sunday.

 

The couple got into a verbal argument that quickly escalated when the man allegedly grabbed the woman by throat, the report stated. The girlfriend then reportedly nicked the man on the chin with a knife to get away from him.

 

The man was arrested and charged with battery under the Family Violence Act and taken to jail.

 

 

  • A woman claimed she was assaulted by her boyfriend and he stole money from her inside a home on Athens Street on Saturday night.

 

She told LaGrange police the attack lasted nearly two hours.

 

The woman stated following a verbal argument, the boyfriend grabbed her by the throat and threw her into some cabinets, according to the report. He then allegedly picked her up, threw her onto the floor and kicked her.

 

The man eventually left but not before taking $40 out of her wallet, the report stated.

 

A warrant was issued for the man, charging him with battery and theft by taking.
