Mrs. Mary Frances Chesnutt Scarborough, age 90, of LaGrange passed away on January 13, 2017 at the Florence Hand Home.  Mrs. Scarborough was born on May 4, 1926 in Statesboro, Georgia to the late Linton Raleigh Akins and Louise Irene Donaldson Akins.  She was a long time member of the First United Methodist Church of LaGrange where she participated in many activities in the church, among them volunteering for the Clothing Center.  She was a devoted mother of three children, a true housewife, an avid reader, gourmet cook, and always sang, whistled and danced around the house.  She moved to LaGrange in the summer of 1959 when her husband, Alex A. Scarborough landed a job with Callaway Mills as the head (Chief Chemist) of the Research and Development Lab.  She raised a family of three children, Mickey, Kathy and Kay Scarborough.  Her husband preceded her in death as well as her daughter, Kathy Chesnutt Scarborough, who died in a freak accident at the age 58.  Mary Frances Akins Scarborough faced a tremendous amount of heartache and tragedy in her life, descending from a long line of classic, but gentle, “Steel Magnolias”.  Survivors include her son, Milton “Mickey” Chesnutt (Lori); daughter, Karol Kay Scarborough; sister, Elizabeth “Betty” Jane Akins Shuman Hart; grandchildren, Sara Scarborough Abbott (Philip), Christin Scarborough Lepore (Scott) and Brant Cochran (Jessica); great grandchild, Austin Cochran and Baby Max on the way, soon to be delivered; extended family and friends.  Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, January 17, 2017 at 1:00 pm at the Chapel of the First United Methodist Church in LaGrange with Dr. Brian Germano officiating.  Interment to follow at Restlawn Memory Gardens.  Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the Chapel at the church.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First United Methodist Church Community Care Fund.  On line condolences may be sent to the family at www.higginsfuneralhomes.com.   Higgins LaGrange Chapel, 706-884-7117.
