Grangers still perfect in region

DOUGLASVILLE – With senior Jarious Freeman displaying a potent outside shooting touch, the red-hot LaGrange Grangers handled home-standing Chapel Hill 60-55 on Saturday night in a Region 5-AAAA showdown.
Freeman made five 3-pointers and scored 15 points to help the Grangers (16-2 overall) remain unbeaten in region play at 5-0.
“We were real proud of Jarious,” said LaGrange head coach Mark Veal, whose team has won five straight games and 13 of 14 overall. “He’s been a solid shooter for us all year.”
The Grangers struggled to find their shooting touch early, and they were down 18-8 after the first quarter.
The Grangers caught fire in the second period and out-scored the Panthers 24-8 to take a 32-26 lead, and Freeman did a lot of the damage with four 3-pointers.
“We were in a lull, and he came and hit four quick ones,” Veal said.
Freeman’s final 3-pointer came with moments remaining in the first half on a pass by LaPerion Perry.
“That gave us some momentum going into halftime,” Veal said.
By the time the third period came to a close, LaGrange had a 50-39 lead.
Chapel Hill hung around in the fourth quarter, but LaGrange never lost control.
Perry had 14 points for the Grangers, and Bryan Fanning and Bo Russell had 10 points apiece.
In Saturday’s girls’ game, LaGrange fell to Chapel Hill 58-53.
Aryan Dozier paced the Lady Grangers with 22 points, and Shania Woodard added 16 points.
LaGrange (8-9 overall) fell to 2-3 in the region.
LaGrange’s teams are off on Tuesday, and they’ll return to action on Friday for home games against Central-Carroll.
