Troup County went three rounds with Mother Nature over the weekend and a tornado watch remained in effect for the area through press time Sunday.

On Saturday morning, the county was under a tornado warning beginning at 8:30 a.m. for about 30 minutes.

Sheriff James Woodruff said there were trees down and scattered power outages south of LaGrange after the storm.  A crew continued to work on power lines and downed trees at Callaway Church and Upper Big Springs roads until after dark.

Local grocery store managers herded customers into coolers as the storm passed Saturday morning, and about 95 students taking the SAT at LaGrange College were brought into restrooms and a stairwell on the lowest floor of Smith Hall.

Students were able to restart the test after the storm passed.

The area received about 3.8 inches of rain with Saturday morning’s storm and an additional 1.1 inches with the storms that came through the area about 2:30 a.m. Sunday morning.
