LaGRANGE – Want to make a difference in your city? Getting started maybe as simple as showing up and voicing your concerns and opinions at an upcoming event.

LaGrange Mayor Jim Thornton plans to host four meetings in coming weeks where the city will update residents on ongoing projects and ask for local feedback. With projects ranging from the Thread Trail to Great Wolf Lodge to public safety, there’s a lot to talk about, he said.

“There is a lot going on in LaGrange right now, and as important as it is for folks to stay informed, it is equally important that they bring new ideas and new suggestions to council,” said Thornton.

This is the third year that the meetings have been held, with previous years proving to have good turnout, according to Thornton. Council members and city staff are also expected to be on hand at each of the meetings.

“Most good ideas don’t come from City Hall, they come from the community,” said Thornton. “… I look forward to folks coming out to one or more of the meetings.”

The meetings with the mayor are scheduled for:

– Tuesday, Jan. 31 at 6 p.m. at at Hollis Hand School, 641 Country Club Road.

– Thursday, Feb. 2 at 6 p.m. at Troup Baptist Association building, 1301 Washington St., (hosted by Circles of Troup County)

– Tuesday, Feb. 7 at 6 p.m. at Confidence Missionary Baptist Church, 705 Colquitt St.

– Thursday, Feb. 9 at 6 p.m. at Dunson United Methodist Church, 11 North Barnard Ave.

The mayor and city council are available to speak with the public at their regularly scheduled city council meetings on the second and fourth Tuesdays of every month at 5:30 p.m. at 200 Ridley Ave. The LaGrange City Council’s next meeting is scheduled for tonight.
