Public Safety Reports

A Garner Newman Middle School student was reportedly suspended for 10 days when administrators discovered a set of brass knuckles in his book bag.

The student allegedly found the brass knuckles in the back yard of a home and brought them to school to sell to another student, stated the police report.

According to school administrators, the student did admit to taking the item out of his book bag and showing them to another student, but not in a threatening manner.

The student was charged with carrying a weapon on school grounds and will face a school tribunal next week.

The brass knuckles were secured by the LaGrange Police Department.

Student arrested for holding ‘Happy Hour’ on campus

A LaGrange College student was arrested Thursday morning for selling marijuana from her dorm room located in the Candler Residence Hall.

Shavandra M. Thompson, 20, was charged with possession with the intent to distribute marijuana and possession with the intent to distribute marijuana within 1,000 feet of a drug free school zone, stated officials with the LaGrange Police Department.

Members of LPD’s Special Investigation Unit executed a search warrant on Thompson’s room on Thursday, stated officials.

Thompson’s alleged drug distributing operation was discovered on several social media outlets by school staff. The woman reportedly advertised she was selling marijuana from her dorm room on a daily basis from 12 p.m. – 2 p.m. and called it ‘Happy Hour,’ stated Sgt. Mark Cavender, head of the Special Investigation Unit.

Thompson also allegedly offered ‘discounted specials’ to purchase marijuana during that time, officials said.

The 20-year-old student was found with marijuana packaged for resale, along with other drug related items, at the time of her arrest, Cavender stated.
