Rezoning on New Franklin Road considered

LaGRANGE – A local developer requested the rezoning of property on the corner of New Franklin Road and Hogan Road on behalf of his client on Tuesday.

The Troup County Board of Commissioners reviewed a request from Ben Yates on behalf of Hilda Vaughn to rezone a parcel of land on the western side of New Franklin Road from lakeside residential to commercial at the commissions regular meeting on Tuesday. The 4.32-acre parcel is located in an area that already contains both residential and commercial property nearby, though much of the surrounding property is wooded, like the property itself.

The proposed use for the property is a boat and recreational vehicle storage area, but if the commission approves the rezoning, the owner would be able to use the property for any county-approved commercial use.

The board of zoning approved the zoning change with the condition that the entrance would need to be on Hogan Road for safety reasons. The second hearing and commission vote on the rezoning is planned for the commission’s next meeting on Tuesday, March 7 at 9 a.m. at 100 Ridley Ave.
