ACWORTH – It was a winning day for the Troup Tigers.

Troup played three games at Allatoona High in Acworth over the weekend, and it dropped the first of those games to the host team on Friday night.

Troup returned to Allatoona’s field on Saturday and beat Hillgrove 7-2 and Whitewater 4-2.

Saturday’s games capped a challenging week for the Tigers, who began the five-game stretch with a home game against a strong Brookwood team.

Troup also won at Valley on Thursday before playing the three games in Acworth.

“I’m pretty pleased with that, going 3-2 against those teams,” Troup coach Craig Garner said.

The weekend began with an 11-1 loss to Allatoona.

The Tigers were limited to three hits, and Caleb McCurry had his team’s only RBI.

Troup bounced back for a pair of quality wins on Saturday.

In the first game, Troup was down 2-0 to Hillgrove when it scored four runs in the bottom of the third inning to take the lead.

The Tigers then scored single runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth inning to cap the scoring.

Ryan Bliss did a lot of damage for the Tigers with three hits, including a solo home run, and he also had a double.

Kenly Bridwell had a hit and two RBIs, and Cooper Doughman and Brantly Robinson each had a hit and an RBI.

McCurry and Colby Williams each drove in a run.

Williams was Troup’s starting pitcher, and he threw six innings and gave up two runs on seven hits with five strikeouts.

Bliss threw a scoreless seventh inning to finish it.

Against Whitewater, Troup scored three runs in the top of the third inning to go ahead 4-1, and it made that lead stand up.

Joseph Calhoun, Jackson Knox and Robinson combined to get the job done on the mound for the Tigers.

Calhoun started and pitched 4 1/3 innings, and he gave up two runs (one earned) on three hits while striking out five.

Knox entered the game in the fifth inning and pitched 1 2/3 innings and he didn’t give up a run, and Robinson threw a scoreless seventh inning to get the save.

Offensively, Williams had two hits and two RBIs.

Doughman had two hits with an RBI.

Trent Bailey, who had five RBIs during a wild 18-17 win over Valley on Thursday, had a hit and an RBI, and Bridwell scored two runs from the leadoff position.

Troup is off until Friday when it visits Carrollton.
