HOGANSVILLE – The Callaway Cavaliers beat the rain, and the Temple Tigers.

Callaway and Temple were originally going to play on Tuesday, but the boys’ soccer match was moved to Monday to avoid the rain.

The weather was just fine on Monday evening, and Callaway (4-4 overall) thumped Temple 7-0 to improve to 3-0 in Region 5-AA.

It was a dominant performance by Callaway, which out-shot Temple 37-2, and goal

keepers Hugo Lopez and Joh Cooprider didn’t have to make any saves.

One of Callaway’s offensive standouts was Grayson Lambert, who had three goals, and Wesley Brooks, Jaylen Harrison, Tyler Lewis and Jonathan Castillo each had a goal.

“We were working toward a dominating performance and we got that tonight,” LaGrange Academy coach Mike Petite said. “We scored some quality goals and moved the ball well for most of the game. The defense was strong and didn’t allow them to become dangerous at any time tonight. Again, we have to still look to improve as we continue region play.”

It took the Cavaliers less than five minutes to notch their first goal, with Lambert scoring on an assist from Noah Stephens.

In the 10th minute, Brooks was taken down in the box, and he made the penalty kick to give the Cavaliers a 2-0 lead.

Two minutes later Lambert struck again as he scored off of one of Ian Bryan’s four assists, and Callaway led 3-0.

In the 26th minute, it was Harrison scoring his first career high-school goal on an assist from Castillo, and the Cavaliers took a 4-0 lead to the half.

Callaway capped the scoring with three goals in a five-minute stretch in the second half.

Five minutes into the second half, Lewis scored his first goal of the season.

Lambert scored his third goal of the game in the 49th minute, and one minute later, Castillo scored his fifth goal of the season.

Bryan assisted on Callaway’s final three goals.

Callaway’s girls’ team also eased past Temple.

The Lady Cavaliers improved to 2-1 in Region 5-AA with the 8-0 win.

Kelly Carlisle and Brianne Vaught led the way for the Lady Cavaliers with three goals each.

Chloe McGuffin and Acia Stephens had one goal apiece.
