LaGRANGE- 12 members of The Choral Society of West Georgia will be traveling to New York City this week to perform on the Issac Stern Stage at Carnegie Hall. The Choral Society of West Georgia was invited by the Distinguished Concert International Series of New York to participate in the upcoming March concerts. The concert will take place on Sunday.

“We will we have a three to four hour rehearsal on Friday and Saturday and on Sunday afternoon we’ll do another run of rehearsal,” said The Choral Society of West Georgia program director Bettie Biggs. “Then on Sunday night we will perform on stage at Carnegie Hall.”

The Issac Stern Stage the Choral Society of West Georgia will be performing on is named after the famous violinist, who led a campaign to save Carnegie Hall from being destroyed in the 1970s.

The Choral Society members will be performing with a collaborative choir that features people from all over the world, including New Zealand.

Orchestrating the concert will be Dr. Andre J. Thomas, who is the director of Choral Activities and Professor of Choral Music Education at The Florida State University. He is a choral adjudicator, clinician, and director of Honor/All-State Choirs throughout the United States, Europe, Asia, New Zealand, and Australia. Along with having experience directing musical concerts, Thomas also is a composer and many of his compositions and arrangements have been published by Hinshaw Music Company, Mark Foster Music Company, Fitzsimmon Music Company, Lawson Gould, Earthsongs, and Heritage Music Company.

“We will be performing eight composition pieces that were written by Thomas,” said Biggs.

Members of the Choral Society will not be traveling as a group to New York City and will be responsible for their own transportation, which could prove tricky with a nor’easter predicted this week for the Northeast U.S.

The Choral Society has previously performed at Lincoln Center in New York City under the direction of Dr. Rene Clausen, as well as performing in both Belfast, Northern Ireland and Dublin, Ireland this past summer.
