LaGRANGE – The city council voted to modify the Lee’s Crossing precinct’s voting location for city elections from Ethel Kight Elementary School to the Troup County Administration building on Tuesday. The change is in order to make the polling places the same location that residents would go to to vote in county elections.

According to city officials, Ethel Kight has not been used as a voting location since the city elections that took place there in November 2015, and only a handful of the precinct’s 634 active/inactive voters went to Ethel Kight to vote in that election.

The city has discussed placing a sign in front of Ethel Kight during elections in November to notify the public of the change.

In this year’s city election, both district one council seats will be up for a vote – with both Councilman Tom Gore and Councilman Nick Woodson planning to run again – and the district two council seat currently occupied by Norma Tucker will also be up for the vote. This year’s ballot is also set to include the mayoral election, and on the county ticket, the special-purpose, local-option sales tax will be up for a vote. This SPLOST – which is by definition limited to capital improvement projects – is expected to include improvements to several local parks, necessary repairs to the LaGrange police station and construction of sections of the Thread Trail, among other city and county projects.

The city council is scheduled to meet again on March 28 at 5:30 p.m. at 208 Ridley Ave.
