LAGRANGE – Troup head football coach Tanner Glisson is looking for a new defensive coordinator.

Micah Alba, who was a first-year member of the coaching staff last season, is leaving Troup to become the new head football coach at The Heritage School in Newnan.

Alba was part of a new-look coaching staff that helped Troup enjoyed a remarkable turnaround a year ago.

The Tigers went 1-9 in 2015, and they bounced back to post an 8-3 record a year ago and they finished second in Region 5-AAAA before falling to West Hall in the opening round of the state playoffs.

Troup’s defense, which made a dramatic improvement from the previous season, was a key reason why the team improved by seven wins.

Alba, a native of Marietta and a graduate of Walton High, played for four seasons at BYU before beginning his coaching career at Fresno State.

Alba returned to his home state and coached at Dublin and Carrollton before coming to Troup.

Alba is taking over at Heritage for D.J. Clay, who led the team to a 10-1 record and a region championship last season.

Alba is also the boys’ soccer coach at Troup, and his team is 2-1 in region play and in contention to earn a state-tournament berth.
