LaGRANGE – Holmes Pharmacy has been a reliable, caring and diligent business for more than 60 years in LaGrange and it continues that tradition into the present day.

HP Holmes Pharmacy was opened by John Allen Holmes in the 1950s when the pharmacy originally started in downtown LaGrange. Holmes then passed the business down to his son, John Allen Holmes Jr., who later sold it to Danny Toth in the early 1980s. After working with Toth since 1995, current owner Perry P. Prather bought the pharmacy in the mid-2000s and has been in charge ever since.

“We are a typical pharmacy but we’re independent,” said Prather.

The pharmacy offers a number of services including delivery, immunizations, compounding, a lot of hormone replacement therapy (HRT) for women and men, clinic pharmacy, individualized medications delivery system for elderly people (providing them with medication in packets so it will be easier for them to reach), diabetic shoes and even support hose.

“We’ve sold the old Watkins products ever since I’ve been here. We have the drive-thru, which is a big thing for us. We have a little bit of everything,” Prather said.

Along with Prather, there are three other pharmacists – Kim Story, Mandy Lamb and Bill Scarborough — that support him and contribute to the pharmacy running in sync.

“The biggest thing I like to promote is that we’re all accessible,” said Prather. “Customers can come see me anytime. They can call me anytime. If someone has a question, then I’m accessible. That’s one of the biggest differences with our business compared to the big chains.”

Not only does HP Holmes Pharmacy specialize in a variety of different services but Prather is proud that the pharmacy stands out as convenient and offers a family atmosphere for local residents when they come in.

“We’ve been in business for more than 50 years and our pharmacists and staff are accessible at any time to our patients,” said Prather. “We’re fast, friendly and we’re a good family-owned business. We know our patients well and we strive to serve them.”
