CARROLLTON – Before Tuesday’s region matchup with Central-Carroll, the LaGrange Grangers had scored a total of seven runs in their previous four games.

LaGrange scored more runs than that in the third inning alone of Tuesday’s game in Carrollton.

In its most productive offensive game of the season, LaGrange (10-7 overall) overwhelmed Central-Carroll 19-6 to improve to 2-1 in Region 5-AAAA.

Early on, it looked like it was going to be a shootout, with Central holding a 6-5 lead through two innings.

The rest of the game belonged to the Grangers, though, who outscored the Lions 14-0 in the third through fifth innings combined.

LaGrange scored eight runs in the third inning to go up 13-5, and it added a single run in the fourth inning before capping the scoring with five runs in the fifth.

David Sweat had a monster offensive day for the Grangers.

The senior outfielder was 5-for-5 with three RBIs and two stolen bases.

Senior shortstop Willis Kemp also had his way with Central’s pitchers, going 4-of-5 with seven RBIs.

Senior catcher Champ Willis had three hits and he was hit by a pair of pitches, and he stole two bases.

Cole Freeman was 3-for-3 with a walk and four stolen bases and an RBI, and Matthew Anderson had two hits and two RBIs.

Jacob Vinson was 2-for-4 with two RBIs.

Coy Tedescucci had a hit, a walk and an RBI, Trevor Norris had a hit and a stolen base, and Ben Farrar had a sacrifice fly.

Colson Blackburn also had a hit for LaGrange.

On the mound, John Morgan got the start and he pitched one inning, and Tedescucci threw the second inning.

Vinson finished it with three scoreless innings on the mound.

LaGrange also got it done on the defensive end.

Hunter Plant made some nice plays at first base, Willis and Norris turned some double plays from the shortstop and second-base position, respectively, and Freeman made a diving catch in right field.

LaGrange will be at home against Cartersville on Thursday before visiting Sandy Creek on Friday.
