CARTERSVILLE – One run was enough.

Troup’s Colby Williams, who has been close to unhittable every time he’s taken the mound this season, had his way with Cartersville’s hitters on Friday afternoon to lead his team to a 1-0 road win.

It was a key victory for the Tigers, who improved to 3-2 in Region 5-AAAA and bounced back from Thursday’s home loss to Central-Carroll.

“That’s what’s so rewarding about the game,” Troup head coach Craig Garner said. “You play a tough game at home, a game that we lost that we very easily should have won. Take nothing from Central-Carroll, but in our minds, we feel like we’re the better team and should have taken the win. But we always tell them, you have to have a short memory and a positive mindset for the next game. For them to put behind them and play a very good, high-intensity game in some pretty adverse situations, and to battle through it and weather through it, it’s very rewarding.”

Troup scored the game’s only run in the top of the fifth inning.

With one out, Camren Russell was hit by a pitch, and he moved to third on a Brantly Robinson base hit.

Kenly Bridwell then came through with an RBI single, and the Tigers had a 1-0 lead.

Williams did the rest.

Williams, who earned a complete-game victory in an earlier region game against LaGrange, went the full seven innings against Cartersville

Williams gave up three hits and two walks, and he had nine strikeouts.

Offensively, Cooper Doughman had two hits for Troup, and Bridwell, Robinson and Jarred Helton each had one hit.

Troup will look to keep it going when it hosts Sandy Creek on Tuesday.
