Martha Elizabeth Dodgen, 95, of Five Points, AL passed away Monday, March 27, 2017.

Mrs. Dodgen was born July 15, 1921 in Temple, GA to the late John Andrew Potate and Lula Eugenia Smith Potate. She was retired from the United States Postal Service as a Post Master and Rural Carrier. Mrs. Dodgen was a very active member of Standing Rock United Methodist Church and the Women’s Club until her health declined. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ambrous Mac Dodgen; and grandson, Robert “Bobby” Dodgen.

Survivors include her son, Johnny Mac (Bonnie) Dodgen; daughter, Sharon Dodgen McLaughlin; grandchildren, John Andrew (Kelly) Dodgen, Angela Susan Woodie, Thomas Rex McLaughlin, April McLaughlin Box, Major Bryant McLaughlin; 8 great grandchildren; other relatives and friends.

A Celebration of Life service will be held 2:00 P.M. EST Thursday, March 30, 2017 at Standing Rock United Methodist Church with Reverend Paul Messer and Reverend Milton Newton officiating. The gathering of family and friends will be on Wednesday, March 29, 2017 from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary.

In lieu of flowers, the family has respectfully requested any contributions to be made to Standing Rock United Methodist Church Cemetery Fund, 3440 Co Rd 278, Five Points, AL 36855 in memory of Mrs. Martha E. Dodgen.
