HOGANSVILLE – The Callaway Cavaliers were hoping to get a chance to extend their winning streak to 10 on Monday, but Mother Nature prevailed instead.

Callaway’s scheduled game with Christian Heritage was canceled because of rain, and it will not be made up.

Callaway, weather permitting, will return to the field today for a road game against Region 5-AA opponent Jordan.

The same two teams will meet at Callaway on Thursday for a doubleheader.

The Cavaliers (14-7 overall) are 6-0 in the region, and they appear headed for a championship showdown with Heard County next week.

First up are this week’s three games with Jordan (11-11 overall), which is in third place in the region with a 3-6 record.

Callaway has won three games apiece from Temple and Lamar County to reach the halfway point of the region schedule with a perfect record, while Heard County (14-5 overall) is also 6-0.

Heard County’s three region games this week are against Temple.

Coming into the season, Callaway and Heard County figured to be the two front-runners in the region, and that’s how it has played out.

Jordan is lagging way behind in third place at 3-6, Lamar County follows at 2-7, and Temple is 1-5.

The top four teams will each qualify for the state playoffs.

Callaway has gone nearly a month without a loss.

The Cavaliers fell to 5-7 with a road loss to Troup on March 6, but they’ve won nine in a row since then.
