LAGRANGE – There was no post spring-break hangover for the Troup Tigers.

Facing Spencer on Monday night at Callaway Stadium, Troup’s boys’ soccer team scored three early goals, and it went on to claim a 4-0 victory.

Senior Alan Vazquez scored two of Troup’s goals, and Jimmy Cancino and Parker Stover each had one goal.

“We just wanted to try our best to get warmed up the best we could, and put our minds to it,” said Myles Sargent in explaining the quick start.

While pleased with the nice start, Troup head coach Micah Alba the team will need to play better moving forward.

The Tigers finished third in Region 5-AAAA, and they’ll be on the road for the first round of the state playoffs.

“We started off good and strong,” Alba said. “We started how I wanted us to, but we’re just not consistent. That’s the biggest thing. We’ve challenged them. This is great for right now, but we want to win in the playoffs. If we play at a high level, we can play with anybody.”

The Tigers (12-4-1) have won 11 of their past 13 games, and the only loss during that stretch came to LaGrange.

“We’re a good team, and we play together as a team, and we play as a family,” Sargent said. “That’s what gets us through.”

In Monday’s girls’ game, the Lady Tigers had all sorts of scoring chances, but they were unable to convert any of them and they lost 2-0.

It was 1-0 game at the half, and Spencer scored in the second half to go up by two.

The Lady Tigers had some excellent scoring chances in the final 10 minutes as they looked to cut into the deficit, but they couldn’t find the net.

Troup will visit Callaway on Thursday, with the girls’ game starting at 5:30 p.m. and the boys’ game to follow.
