Callaway soccer team gets win

Callaway High’s boys’ soccer team dominated Kendrick on Monday en route to a 4-0 victory.

The Cavaliers, who hadn’t played in more than a week, showed no signs of rust in improving to 9-6.

Callaway struck quickly, with Ian Bryan scoring in the second minute on an assist from Wes Brooks.

In the 17th minute, it was Jonathan Castillo scoring on a penalty kick, and Grayson Lambert scored three minutes later on an assist from Castillo, and it was a 3-0 game.

Callaway capped the scoring with a Tyler Lewis goal in the 71st minute.

“To come out of spring break and jump right into competition is tough, but our guys were ready for the challenge tonight,” Callaway coach Mike Petite said. “We played well considering the layoff but we really need to ramp up our play as well get ourselves ready for the upcoming state playoffs.”

Callaway will be at home against Troup on Thursday, with the girls’ game starting at 5:30 p.m., and the boys’ game to follow.

TENNIS: LaGrange High’s boys’ team won its lone match on Tuesday in the Region 5-AAAA tournament, while the LaGrange girls’ team went 1-1.

After a first-round bye, the LaGrange boys’ team beat Cedartown 4-1.

Gavin Battle and Pierce Skinner won at number one doubles, Will Hunnicutt and Tiger Lakhwani won at number two doubles, and Pierce Skinner won at number two singles.

LaGrange’s girls’ team opened with a 3-2 win over Chapel Hill.

LaGrange won all three of the singles matches, with Abbi Lynn Lanier, Lizzie Wilkerson and Jin Shin each prevailing.

LaGrange’s girls’ team the lost to Central-Carroll 4-0.
