LAGRANGE – It’s playoff time.

LaGrange High’s soccer teams put the finishing touches on the regular season by taking care of Kendrick on Monday at Callaway Stadium.

In the girls’ game, it was LaGrange rolling to a 10-0 victory in a game that ended just before the half because of the mercy rule, and the LaGrange boys’ team won 7-0.

Both teams now turn their attention to the Class AAAA state tournament that begins next week.

The Lady Grangers, after winning the Region 5-AAAA championship, will be at home in the first round.

The Grangers, who finished second in the region to Cartersville, will also host a first-round game.

On Monday, LaGrange’s teams didn’t face much opposition.

In the girls’ game, Caroline Thompson led the way with three goals, Hannah Asbell , Maggie Asbell and Lunden Keith had two goals apiece, and Maddie Patton had one goal.

Hannah Asbell, Patton, Izzy Pippin and Abby Mazzolini each had an assist.

LaGrange took 22 shots, and 10 of them found the back of the net.

“All we were trying to do was play each other’s feet, try to keep the ball as long as possible,” LaGrange coach Andy Fritchley said. “It was about the fourth or fifth goal, we had five or six passes in a row.”

In the boys’ game, LaGrange had its most productive offensive game of the season, with seven different players scoring goals.

Max Halcomb, Josue Recinos, John McDonald, Robert Reese, Alex Bowie, Logan Lopez and Grayson Bartley each scored for the Grangers.

“We are still working on some things,” LaGrange coach Keita Placide said. “It’s nice to get scoring going, because we have had a problem all year scoring. We play well, but we just can not find the back of the net.

“Tonight was nice. Even when we played them down in Columbus (a 2-0 win), we have problems scoring.”
