HOGANSVILLE – They’re hoping for a better result this time.

In 2013, the Callaway Cavaliers were in the second round of the state playoffs, and their opponent was Dodge County.

The series went the full three games, and it was Callaway losing 12-3 in Game 3.

Today, those two teams will face off again, and this time the series will be at Callaway.

Callaway (23-8) earned its spot in the second round with a series sweep of Chattooga County, while Dodge County (22-7) swept Fitzgerald.

The Cavaliers have been as hot as any team in Class AA, winning 18 of their past 19 games, but they will be short-handed today, with one of their best players unable to go.

Chandler Lott, a pitcher and catcher for the Cavaliers, will be out of action because of an injury.

In the Chattooga series, Lott pitched a six-inning complete game in Game 1, and he got the save in Game 2.

With Lott sidelined, Callaway head coach Dusty Hubbard will likely send Josh Hanson and Dylan Johnson to the mound for today’s games, while Kyle Campbell is also a possibility.

Hanson has been phenomenal this season, and he’ll bring an 8-0 record and an earned run average close to 2.00 into this series.

Johnson pitched in relief in Game 2 against Chattooga, and he did some solid work and got the win.

Offensively, Callaway has been battering the ball.

The Cavaliers scored 17 runs in the two games against Chattooga, and Braelin Mitchell and Johnson both hit home runs.

The Cavaliers are averaging 8.5 runs per game this season.
