Alumni grill up something good for Troup teachers

LaGRANGE – At 5 a.m. on Friday morning, movement could be seen on the lawn beside the Troup High School lunchroom, but the grilled chicken, beans and coleslaw was no senior prank.

The Troup High School Alumni Association gathered at the high school before the sun rose early on Friday to put together a special lunch for the school’s teachers in honor of teacher appreciation week. The high school has also had students and the parent teacher organization step in over the course of the week to show appreciation for the teachers leading up to the annual alumni association lunch.

“We look forward to this every year,” said Claire Hale, a teacher at Troup High School. “It is delicious.”

The alumni association at Troup High School is very active and teachers and administrators both complimented the group’s willingness to help get the students and teachers whatever they need for a positive school experience.

“It’s an honor to give back to Troup High School,” said Tax Commissioner Shane Frailey, the president of the alumni association. “The principal, the students and that is what the alumni association is all about – just giving back to where we graduated from and the community.”

The alumni association has recently put on several events including a donkey basketball game and a concert featuring The Sockhops. They plan to announce the recipients of two $1,000 scholarships sponsored by the alumni association at Troup High School’s honors program.

“We love helping the school, and we love helping these kids,” said Frailey. “That’s why we do what we do. We really appreciate our teachers, and that is why we put this (lunch) together.”

The teachers were excited to see the alumni and voiced their appreciation for the lunch and everything else that they do for the school.

“This (lunch) is a huge treat for us,” said Kelly Giles, a teacher at Troup High School. “We really appreciate it.”
