Investigators with the Troup County Sheriff’s Office are working to identify the body found floating near the shoreline of Glass Bridge Park around 3:15 p.m. on Saturday.

A witness spotted the body of what they believed to be an African American male floating in West Point Lake, stated Sgt. Stewart Smith.

First responders and TCSO investigators confirmed the 59-year-old man was deceased, Smith added.

Investigators believe foul play is not involved and are treating the death as an accidental drowning, officials said.

The body was sent to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation crime lab for an autopsy.

Investigators are withholding identification of the man, pending notification of next of kin.
