Public Safety Reports

A woman told LaGrange police officers she woke up around 5 a.m. on Thursday and noticed an intruder standing in the doorway of her bedroom.

The incident happened at a house in the 200 block of North Dawson Street.

The woman stated her child was also in the bedroom, according to the report.

According to the victim, the intruder ran out of the back door and into some nearby woods.

LaGrange Police checked the home and the surrounding area, but did not find a suspect.

Nothing was taken from the home, the report stated.

Department store fraud

Suspects in a region-wide fraud case involving Belk department stores reportedly struck the LaGrange location.

The suspects allegedly are exploiting a loop hole in the store’s purchasing system, according to the police report.

The perpetrators have reportedly stolen more than $101,000 from Belk stores across the southeast region.

They targeted the LaGrange store in April by returning a pair of jeans that were never part of the Belk’s inventory, according to the report.

The investigation is ongoing. No arrests have been made in the case.

Forgery

A man reported someone was cashing checks out of his bank account that he never wrote.

The checks were reportedly coming out of his work account under Healthy Smiles Family Dentistry. The checks look almost similar, but the name of the company was not centered, the man reported.

The suspect stole $2,261.85 from the account, according to the report.

The case was turned over to LPD’s Criminal Investigation Section.
