This weekend in LaGrange is focused around high school graduations, but as always, there’s plenty to do and see.

Callaway High School’s graduation started the weekend off Thursday night, but Troup County High School and LaGrange High School will have their commencement ceremonies this weekend as well. Troup’s will be held at 8 p.m. Friday night and LaGrange’s starts at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday. All three will be held at Callaway Stadium.

Lafayette Christian School’s graduation is also Saturday night at 6 p.m.

Memorial Day Services

The public is invited to attend a Memorial Day service at 11 a.m. at Shadowlawn Cemetery. The speaker will be Lt. Col. Ruben A. Martinez, commanding office, Marine Corps Detachment, the Maneuver Center of Excellence.

A Memorial Day Service will be held at Calvin Hipp Park in Hogansville at 11 a.m. The speaker will be Ray Coleman, a former Hogansville resident and navy journalist.

Kool & The Gang at Amphitheater

Kool & The Gang will perform at The Sweetland Amphitheater this weekend in LaGrange. Gates open at 7 p.m. and the concert starts at 8 p.m. The band has sold over 70 million albums worldwide with songs such as “Celebration,” “Cherish,” “Jungle Boogie,” “Summer Madness” and “Open Sesame.”

Kool & The Gang has won two Grammy Awards and seven American Music Awards. Tickets can be purchased at www.sweetland.events/events-tickets.

Church on the Hooch

First United Methodist of LaGrange will hold Church on the Hooch, a casual worship service on the banks of the Chattahoochee River, at 10 a.m. Sunday. This will be the first Church on the Hooch event for 2017, but it will run through July 30. Anyone who attends is invited to sit on the bank or to sit in a boat.

Holocaust Remembrance Observation

The 10th annual National Holocaust Remembrance Observation will be held from 5 p.m.-6 p.m. at the Biblical History Center, located at 130 Gordon Commercial Drive in LaGrange. Admission is free.

Bald Eagle Release

The Southeastern Raptor Center, in conjunction with the Georgia Department of Natural Resources, will release an adult Bald Eagle at West Point Lake at noon. The release will take place near the Pyne Road Park boat ramp off Georgia 109, just west of LaGrange.

West Point Lake Beaches

The beach areas at Rocky Point, Earl Cook and Yellowjacket Creek Recreation Areas opened last weekend and are open from 10 a.m.- 9 p.m. each day until Labor Day. There is a self-service fee station located near the entrance to each park. Cash and or checks are accepted to pay the $5 per vehicle day use fee. Annual pass holders are asked to hang their pass from the rear view mirror of their vehicle.
