Tournament thanks veterans for service

Memorial Day was last week, so it hasn’t been very long since we wrote about this nation’s veterans and the sacrifices they’ve made for the freedoms we have.

However, another event this weekend brought attention to our veterans, and it got our attention too. The fifth annual Take a Warrior Fishing Tournament took place Saturday at Highland Marina. The event is sponsored by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and many other groups. More than 40 military service men and women, from all service branches, took part in the event, which was meant as a way to bring different veterans together. All of the organizations who put the fishing day together deserve a pat on the back and a big thank you, starting with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

“These folks give up a lot for us so it’s good to give back to these great veterans and warriors,” said David Barr with the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers.

We couldn’t agree more. The truth is we can never do enough to thank the men and women who serve this country in the military for all they do.

Plus, a day of fishing and relaxation never hurt anyone.
