The LaGrange Police Department responded to a call of a broken window Wednesday morning at Ethel Kight Elementary School.

Rocks were used to break a window the back door of the lunch room, according to the police report. The report said the window was broken sometime between 1:30 p.m. Tuesday and an employee’s arrival at 6:53 a.m. on Wednesday. School officials are expected to review a video camera to see if anyone was caught on film. The value of the window was around $100.

Man with several warrants taken into custody

Officers with the Special Investigations Unit of the LaGrange Police Department identified a man wanted for several active warrants enter a residence Tuesday afternoon on Newman Street.

Officers surrounded the house and attempted to make contact with the man, but he did not answer the front door, according to the police report. Officers heard a toilet flushing and smelled a strong odor of marijuana coming from the restroom, the report said. Officers entered the residence after smelling marijuana, believing there was exigent circumstances and destruction of evidence was in progress, according to the report.

The man was cited for city ordinance violation obstruction and also was wanted for contempt of court, and failure to appear.

$3,500 stolen from residence

The LaGrange Police Department is investigating a robbery on Mitchell Avenue, where a man allegedly had $3,500 stolen from him.

The man returned home Tuesday afternoon and noticed there was loose change on the floor on his living room, that the rear door was open and that his screen window was bent, according to the police report. Police said he walked upstairs and realized the five-gallon water jug in his closet was missing.

The jug was filled to the top and was estimated to have $3,500 inside. Other high-priced items were not taken, including flat screen televisions.

Possible robbery at hotel

Just after midnight on Wednesday morning, deputies with the Troup County Sheriff’s Road responded to a possible robbery that occurred at the Sunrise Inn on Whitesville Road.

According to a press release, officers determined that Robert Pool, 36, allegedly pulled a handgun and demanded valuables from two people at the location.

Investigators charged Pool, of West Point, with armed robbery and other charges. Investigators were able to recover some of the victim’s property.

Neither victim was injured during the incident.

Waffle House Robbed in Valley

The Valley, Alabama Police Department responded to a call of an armed robbery Wednesday morning at Waffle House, located on 20th Avenue.

Witnesses said that a black male in his early 20s, came into the restaurant, jumped over the county and entered the manager’s office, according to the press release. The suspect confronted the store manager with a handgun and demanded money. He left with an undisclosed amount of money and was last seen on foot running into the neighborhood behind the restaurant, the report said. There were no injuries reported.
