LaGRANGE – LaGrange’s growth in recent years continues to encourage more growth, as industry continues to search out the ideal location for new business in the city.

On Tuesday, the LaGrange City Council considered a request to rezone a piece of city property at the end of Corporate Park East Drive to general industrial after receiving interest by a business that is at least discussing opening at that location.

“An industrial user that wants to purchase this 10 acres at the end of Corporate Park East Drive which is essentially the industrial park,” City Planner Leigh Threadgill said. “It is bordered by rail and the interstate, and it is an unlikely place for mixed use residential to ever end up — at this particular location — because all the neighbors are very industrial, and so it seemed like a very good fit.”

The city owns about 70 acres of land in that area, which is zoned for mixed use residential, and if the rezoning is approved, only the 10 acre section on Corporate Park East Drive would be sectioned off to be rezoned.

The council did not express any concerns regarding the rezoning, which would make it possible for another industry member to work in the already industrial area.

“When you drive through there you really can’t imagine residential,” Councilmember Tom Gore commented.

The LaGrange City Council plans to meet again on Tuesday, June 27 at 5:30 p.m. at 208 Ridley Ave. The public hearing on the property rezoning is scheduled for July 25 at 5:30 p.m.
