There’s nothing quite like the back to school rush.

Anyone who has worked retail can tell you horror stories of the days right before the school year, when parents try at the last minute to find everything on their child’s school supply list. Some of the lists are oddly specific and the objects are often hard to find.

Of course, that’s for parents that have the money to afford supplies. Many people don’t have that luxury and need any help they can to help their children get the materials they need for upcoming classes.

That’s where community school supply drives play a role. In LaGrange, many of these drives are held throughout the summer and at times, some of them may get overlooked, but that won’t be the case anymore.

The LaGrange City Council agreed to provide $2,000 to Family and Children’s Education Services, so that the group can host a free back to school fair in late July. It’ll be titled 2017 Troup County Community Fest and will eliminate the need for parents to go to multiple events in order to get supplies.

The plan is to form a partnership with all the churches and community groups that currently host similar fairs and bring them together for this larger fair. The fair will be held at Calumet Park.

We think this makes all the sense in the world. One large back to school fair sounds like it’s better for organizers and for parents.
