Spherion Staffing Services, a local recruiting, staffing and workforce solutions provider backed by the resources of a $2 billion global workforce leader, recently honored LaGrange franchise owner Michael Chalmers with the company’s 2016 Excellence in Safety Award.

The annual award recognizes the Spherion owner who maintains the lowest workplace injury rate among placed employees during the previous year and consistently demonstrates a “safety first” mentality. To be eligible, at least 75 percent of a Spherion owner’s business must include light industrial account service.

Chalmers works closely with his industrial clients’ regional safety managers and employees to review protocols and identify areas for improvement. Through an emphasis on ongoing safety measures and a commitment to ensuring employees understand and adhere to workplace regulations, Chalmers and his team reduced their injury frequency rate to 5.41 in 2016. Injury frequency rates are calculated per 100 full-time employees.

Additionally, Chalmers and his team spearheaded the assessment process that led to Spherion receiving the American Staffing Association and National Safety Council’s Safety Standard of Excellence designation in March 2017. The Safety Standard of Excellence Program validates the efficiency of host employers’ implemented measures to guarantee the safety and health of temporary employees.

“Michael has set the standard for promoting employee well-being both in his offices and across our organization as a whole,” said Sandy Mazur, Spherion Division President. “His dedication to developing and enacting safety best practices for his partners and employees embodies Spherion’s commitment to occupational safety. We are thrilled to honor Michael with the 2016 Excellence in Safety Award, and commend him for his industry-leading practices.”

A former Spherion employee, Chalmers assumed his ownership role in 2010 and has since expanded the company’s workforce services across four Georgia and Northern Alabama offices. Chalmers additionally has grown Spherion’s community presence through involvement with local economic and philanthropic organizations. Most notably, he serves as Chairman of the Board for the Robins Regional Chamber, a board member for the United Way of Central Georgia, and Chairman of the Board for the Houston County Career Academy. In May 2017, Spherion also named Chalmers the president of its Licensee Advisory Board.
