Man charged with burglary

Investigators with the Troup County Sheriff’s Office have arrested and charged Jeffery A. Longsowrth, 50, with burglary.

On June 16, investigators responded to a robbery by snatching at Dudley’s Outdoors on West Point Road. Security footage was obtained and still images of the crime were posted on the Troup County Sheriff Department Facebook page, showing the possible suspect. The Sheriff’s Department said that the suspect came into the business when an employee stepped outside and was able to open the cash register and take money from it, according to the sheriff’s department Facebook post. It was unclear how much money Longsworth allegedly left the store with. Longsworth is currently in the Troup County Jail without bond.

leads caller to scam

A man and woman called a number they thought was Yahoo support, only to realize midway through the phone call that there likely being scammed.

The LaGrange Police Department responded to a call at 9:09 p.m. Thursday on the 200 block of Gordon Street, where a man was trying to help a woman gain access to her Yahoo account. They found a contact number that they believed was a Yahoo number online, according to the police report.

The person on the other line said that the woman’s Yahoo account had been hacked and requested a $250 check. The caller became suspicious at that point and hung up the phone. After calling a friend, they determined it was a scam.

Together they called the police, fearing the person on the other end of the line gained access to the woman’s bank account.

However, at the time the police report was made nothing had changed with her bank account.

West Point PD arrests three

juveniles for alleged robbery

The West Point Police Department arrested three juveniles for an alleged robbery Friday afternoon.

The West Point Police Department responded to a call at 1:20 p.m. on Kia Parkway in reference to an accident, according to a press release. When officers arrived, one of the people involved in the accident said he had been robbed by three people. The alleged robbers were seen in the second vehicle in the accident and fled on foot to an adjacent wooded area, according to the press release.

The West Point Police Department and Troup County Sheriff’s Department established a perimeter between Interstate 85 and Kia Parkway.

The West Point PD said one suspect surrendered immediately and the other two were located in the wooded area and taken into custody.  All three juveniles were charged with robbery.
