LAGRANGE – He’s ready to become a Seminole.

Jonathan Foster, a former Troup High standout who is coming off a successful season at Chattahoochee Valley Community College, has committed to play baseball at Florida State, and he’ll be a part of the team for the 2018 season.

Foster, who began his collegiate career at Auburn, has two seasons of eligibility remaining.

Foster was a four-year starter at Troup, and he enjoyed tremendous individual and team success, and he helped the Tigers reach the final four in 2012 and 2013.

Foster was primarily a catcher at Troup, although he also played third base.

Foster had plenty of options when it came time to choose a college, and Auburn won that recruiting battle.

During his freshman season, Foster played in 18 games with 14 starts, and he hit .265 with three doubles and four RBIs.

Foster decided not to return to Auburn for his sophomore season, and he transferred to CVCC, which has one of the country’s elite junior-college programs.

Foster, who got an opportunity to play nearly every day, was terrific.

Foster played in 54 of the Pirates’ 59 games, and he was one of the team’s most consistent offensive producers.

Foster hit .324 with an on-base percentage of .436, and he hit 10 home runs and drove in 60 runs.

Foster had at least one hit in 10 of his final 11 games, and he had four home runs with 14 RBIs during that stretch.

Foster also did a terrific job defensively from his catcher position, committing zero errors while throwing out a majority of potential base-stealers.

Foster joins a Florida State program that’s riding high.

Florida State made it Omaha for the College World Series this season, and it Auburn in the regional round of the NCAA tournament to advance.

Florida State, one of the country’s most consistently successful programs, has won at least 40 games for 40 straight years.
