A man allegedly gave a woman a fake $100 bill in exchange for a phone Saturday evening on the 1800 block of Roanoke Road.

Officers with the LaGrange Police Department responded to a call in reference to a theft that occurred using counterfeit money Saturday at 7:30 p.m. Upon arrival, they met with a woman, who said she had negotiated a deal using the Let Go app to sell her navy ZTE ZMAX Pro Smart Phone for $100.

She met a man outside of MetroPCS on Roanoke Road and handed him the phone while he sat in his vehicle, along with an adult female passenger and a small child. She said the man gave her a counterfeit $100 bill that had “for motion picture use only” written on it and had a fake blue security strip taped to it using Scotch tape, according to the police report.

The male then drove away southbound on West Point Road, according to the police report. The victim did not realize the $100 bill was fake until after the exchange and then called police, the report said.

The woman said she was almost out of gas and was going to use the money she acquired to pay for gas. Officers used the fuel left in their fuel can to ensure she could make it home.
