The Troup County Comprehensive High School Cross Country Team is sponsoring its second annual My School Color Run from 7 to 10 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 12.

During the color run, participants can walk run or jog for 3.1 miles on the streets surrounding the school and a nearby nature trail. Color splash zones will be set up alongside the track where participants can be doused in color. At the end of the run, participants can celebrate in a giant color toss.

“This is really fun for all ages,” TCCHS Cross Country sponsor Christy Kelley said.

Kelley said she originally got the idea to host a color run last year from social media.

“I actually first saw it on Facebook. It was a sponsored ad. I clicked on the link and found out that it’s quite simple to coordinate.” Kelley said.

While other races may be geared to more athletic people, Kelley said the focus of the color run is to just have fun.

“Color runs usually draw people who aren’t as athletic. It’s because they want to have fun,” Kelley said.

This year’s color run currently has four or five sponsors, and Kelley said she hopes the turnout will be as large as the previous event.

“Last year, we have a little over 100 people show up,” Kelley said.

Participants are encouraged to register early. Those who register before Thursday, July 27 will receive a race bib, a color packet and a t-shirt. Registration costs $25, and is currently open on Eventbrite.com.

All proceeds of this event will benefit the TCCHS Cross Country Team.

“It’s going to help us raise money for our uniforms and pay for any extra things that we might need,” Kelley said.
