Joe Lewis Sanders Sr. passed away Tuesday.

He was born December 31, 1937 in Harris County, Georgia to the late, Grady Sanders and Willie Kate Cannon.

He joined Roe’s Chapel U. M. Church in Whitesville, Georgia at an early age, and served as a Steward. Joe retired after thirty years of logging. He did however, continue working as a Landscaper until his health declined.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Annie Lee Sanders; six children:  Rick (Patricia) Sanders, Sherry (Robert) Fanning, Brickie (Shelia) Sanders, Joe Sanders, Jr., Yolanda (Samuel) Sanders, and Nate Howell; grandchildren; twenty-four great grandchildren; one sister, Marie Harris; two brothers, Charlie Sanders and Tim (Betty) Sanders; extended children that he was blessed with, Earl Grier, Mike Thomas, Fredrick Ransom; and a host of relatives and friends.

The Celebration of Life Service will be Sunday at 3 p.m. at Roe’s Chapel U M Church. Pastor Julian Warner will officiate. Burial will follow in the Church Cemetery.
