LDN announces new football magazine

Pigskin Preview, a first-year high school football magazine, will be published by the LaGrange Daily News on Aug. 15.

The magazine will preview the upcoming high school football season for each team within Troup County — LaGrange High, Troup County High, Callaway High and LaFayette Christian. The new magazine will be in full color on magazine quality paper and will be inserted into the Aug. 15 edition of the LaGrange Daily News.

The magazine will include team photos, schedules, rosters, a breakdown of the top players in Troup County, analysis and more.

“We are excited to announce our new high school football magazine,” said managing editor Daniel Evans. “There’s nothing like a Friday night during the fall, and we wanted to celebrate all of our local athletes with this new magazine. This magazine is a chance for us to highlight more players and to take a deeper look at each team than we could inside the confines of a newspaper.”

Perhaps the most exciting part about the new magazine is that the cover will be chosen by the community.  The LaGrange Daily News will hold a vote on its Facebook page to determine which athletes will grace the cover of the first annual Pigskin Preview magazine.

There will be four different cover options, each featuring local students from within Troup County. Three of the cover options include a football player, cheerleader and band members from the three schools within the Troup County School System. The fourth option is a photo of three football players and a cheerleader from LaFayette Christian School.

“We wanted to incorporate everyone that plays a part in making football season special into this cover contest,” Evans said. “We thought it was important to include the cheerleaders and band, since both play an integral part in supporting high school athletics. We’re glad to have each school take part.”

The four cover choices are the following: Callaway band member James Wood, Troup football player Montez Crowe and LaGrange cheerleader Maurie White; Troup cheerleader Dazia Potts, Callaway football player Lichon Terrell and LaGrange band member Liam McDonald; Callaway cheerleader Zahdai Mosley, LaGrange football player Dezhaun Artis and Troup band member Nicholas Ryan; and LaFayette Christian football players Mitch Crandall, Landon Whitley and Jacob Lueken and cheerleader Sydnie Guizar.

The contest will start at 8 a.m. on Monday and will end at 5 p.m. on Friday. The contest will start when the LaGrange Daily News publishes a photo gallery of the four photos on its Facebook page Monday morning. The photo with the most “likes” or “reactions” by Friday at 5 p.m. will be the one that graces the cover.

The voting process is simple. To vote, simply “like” or use the love, haha, wow, sad or angry reactions on the photo you’d like to see on the cover. Each person can only vote from their Facebook profile once and “likes’ or reactions on the overall gallery will not count as a vote. Comments also do not count as a vote.  Feel free to share the gallery or tag friends on the gallery or individual photos.

The three cover options that do not win will still publish inside of the magazine on an “alternate covers” page.
