By now, you’ve already read that three bomb threats were called into businesses Thursday night in LaGrange.

We’re sure many were out shopping or eating Thursday night at businesses on LaFayette Parkway and saw the massive police presence surrounding the area. The threats were called in to Kia of LaGrange, Verizon Wireless and Mike Patton Auto Family just after 6 p.m. on Thursday night.

The LaGrange Police Department immediately cleared surrounding businesses and began searching the three establishments where the threats were made.  Just under three hours later, all three businesses had been checked and given the all clear.

A few hours later — in the wee hours of the morning — an arrest made.

That’s an impressive timeline and it shows that the police department took the threat very seriously, as it should have.

The LaGrange Police Department was aided in the search by the Troup County Sheriff’s Department, Georgia Tech Police, Columbus Police Department, Fayette County Sheriff Office and Muskogee Police Department.

It’s a terrifying situation any time a threat like that is made, especially one that could potentially harm hundreds of people.

It takes time for word to get around and many were probably not on social media Thursday night and woke up Friday morning to news that a suspect was already in custody for the threats.

We’ll let the judicial process play out before passing judgement in this specific incident, but this situations should serve as a deterrent to anyone in the future.

Calling in threats such as this isn’t worth it.
