Thousands of dollars in items stolen from home

A house break in on Eleanor Street between 5 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday resulted in thousands of dollars in items stolen. According to the police report, one of the residents told police he noticed the door was open when he came home and that his couches and bed were overturned and his vent covers for the floors were removed.

Two different men had items taken from the residence. The first man’s items taken included a Scottie Pippen USA Olympic jersey ($70.00), seven various snapback hats ($30.00 each for a total of $210.00), a pair of Hurache sneakers ($100.00), and a gold Michael Kors watch ($275.00). The total value of the items taken was $655.00. The second man’s items included a 42-inch flat screen TV ($1500.00), a Movado watch ($1100.00), a Fossil watch ($175.00) and $400.00 in cash taken from under his mattress. His items were valued at $3,175.

Man allegedly takes drugs as police confront him

A man was cited after allegedly swallowing what appeared to be crack cocaine while being confronted by police on the 700 block of Glenn Robertson Street at 7:40 p.m. on Friday. As the special investigations unit of the LPD was running the tag behind a car, the man, 24, got out of the passenger side.

After talking with police, he was told to keep his hands away from his pocket, but he removed what appeared to be a bag of the drugs from his pocket, put them in his mouth and swallowed them. The man was arrested.

Two cases of theft at Walmart

Walmart on New Franklin Street had two different cases of theft last week. The first occurred Tuesday, July 18, around 9:45 p.m. when a male and female allegedly took several items. They first picked three curtains, valued at $44.24, and concealed them in the female’s purse. The duo then left the store at 9:46 p.m. and returned again around 9:56 p.m. for a refund on two of the curtains, valued at $34.73. The refund was processed on a gift card. The two then took a Mossy Oak camo hat, a Black & Decker Drill, a 5” Black & Decker orbit sander and a Bostitch Drill Set valued at $161.12., totaling $240.09.

These items were then concealed in the female’s purse. The man was identified by using his driver license when he received the gift card. A warrant was issued for his arrest.

The second occurrence took place around 3 p.m. on Friday, according to the police report. The suspect, 44, took three boxes of Borax Detergent and returned them with an old receipt. He then used the money to buy mini peanut butter fudge, a six pack of Bud Ice, Mellow Yellow soda and Suave Shampoo. After being rejected for trying to return a Boost drink, he walked out with it. The man was then arrested after police were called in. The total value of all the items was $35.94.

$2,500 worth of clothes allegedly stolen from Belk

Two women allegedly stole over $2,500 worth of kid’s Ralph Lauren Polo clothes at the Belk on Lafayette Parkway on Friday.

According to the police report, the store manager said the two women stuffed the clothing in a bag and that one of the women went outside. One of the women drove the car up to the curb and the other woman ran out of the store with the clothing and got into the back seat of the vehicle. The vehicle then sped away.
