LAGRANGE – The pro shop got a face-lift.

With the McCluskey Tennis Center set to host a major tournament next week, Michelle Cornett thought it was time for the pro shop to receive a make-over.

So over the course of a few weekends, Cornett and several other people got together and made it happen.

On Thursday, the new-look pro shop was unveiled during an open house at the tennis center.

There’s a new paint job, new furniture, new decorations, and even a new mural featuring three tennis players that was painted by Steve Close.

“Over a couple of weekends, they re-did the whole shop,” said Bill Champion, the head professional at the tennis center.

Next week, the tennis center will be the host site for the USTA tri-level state tournament.

With that in mind, Cornett felt the timing was right to upgrade the pro shop.

“It was on my mind,” Cornett said. “Next weekend, we play host to the Georgia USTA, tri-level state tournament. We have over 466 players coming. So about two months ago, we talked about it. We just knew, visiting all the other clubs, that this could look like a professional tennis (pro shop).”

Among those helping out were Jennifer Bogle, Lisa Morman, Debbie Cox, Lisa Champion, Patricia Rogers, Pat Majestic and Sharolette Rogers.

“Everybody helped,” Cornett said. “Just cleaning took so long. It was a job. But we had fun.”
