Mr. Lyman Cooper Davidson, age 77, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 29, 2017, at the Ogeechee Area Hospice Inpatient Facility.  He was born in LaGrange, GA to Annie Melia Maley and James Guy Davidson, Jr. on Nov. 18, 1939. Lyman was truly a loving, generous, and selfless man.  He was very proud of his son Guy, daughter-in-law Courtney, and 2-year-old grandson, Townsend Bridger Davidson.  His late wife and Guy’s mother, Anna Maude Upchurch Davidson, passed away by his side in 2006.  He later married Mary Ann Wheeler of Shreveport, LA who lived with him in Statesboro, GA until he passed away.

Lyman dedicated much of his life to protecting and caring for others.

He retired in 2010 after a 39-year career with U.S. Customs and a long tenure as the Assistant Port Director at the Port of Savannah.  Prior to serving the Port of Savannah, Lyman was a U.S. Customs Inspector at the Port of Miami for over a decade.  After graduating from LaGrange High School, Lyman attended Georgia Tech and graduated from Troy University.  He spent several years teaching and coaching in Atlanta and attended seminary school in Indiana before joining U.S. Customs.  Lyman was actively involved with the church and passionate about spending time outdoors — especially hiking and boating, and hanging with his grandson. Lyman has always been surrounded by loving family, including numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and Mary Ann’s children; Chris and Kendra Wheeler, Richard and Hilary Wheeler, and grandchildren – Abigail, Zoe Grace, Bailey, Taylor, Braden, and Jordan.

Lyman is survived by his wife Mary Ann Wheeler Davidson, his son Guy Paul Davidson of Savannah, GA, and his three younger siblings who all reside in LaGrange with their spouses; Bill & Ellen Davidson, Hal & Cindy Davidson, and Arrie and Eugene Turner.

The family will receive friends for a visitation on Wednesday, August 2, 2017 from 5:00pm-7:00pm at Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home in Statesboro.

A funeral service will be conducted on Saturday, Aug. 5, 2017, at 2 p.m. at Loyd Presbyterian Church in LaGrange.
