The LaGrange-Troup County Chamber of Commerce will host an Eclipse BASH on August 21 from 1 to 4 p.m. in the chamber of commerce office building.

The event will be held upstairs and on the plaza, and will include moon pies, Blue Moon beer, Sunkist and Sun Chips as refreshment options.

The chamber will be providing viewing glasses for all in attendance to allow event-goers the chance to view the solar eclipse taking place on Aug. 21.

The solar eclipse is scheduled to peak at 2:36 p.m. It will be the first solar eclipse to pass completely across the United States in nearly 100 years, and LaGrange will be one of the most desirable places to view the event across the country.

This particular type of eclipse takes place when the moon passes between the sun and earth, blocking the sun from view. This can only happen during a new moon, and is a rare event.
