Troup County School System adjusts release time for solar eclipse

In order to bring clarity to the Troup County School System (TCSS) community members, the district is listing August 21 dismissal times.

After TCSS reviewed a solar eclipse simulation, it indicated the event is scheduled to have the most impact in Troup County between 2:30 pm – 2:40 pm. That time frame overlaps TCSS elementary school release times and therefore the district has adjusted schedules to reflect optimal student safety.

If a student is absent or receives early check-out to witness this rare occurrence with family, an excused absence will be granted upon a written consent from the parent or guardian. Parents should follow their child’s school procedures for early check-out times.

All elementary schools will dismiss at 3 p.m.

Callaway Middle, Gadner-Newman Middle and Long Cane Middle will dismiss at 4:15 p.m., while The HOPE Academy middle school will dismiss at 3 p.m.

The HOPE Academy high school will also dismiss at 3 p.m., while THINC College & Career Academy will dismiss at 3:30 p.m. and Callaway High, LaGrange High and Troup High will all dismiss at 4 p.m.

The district will use this opportunity to educate students on the science surrounding the solar eclipse before, during and after the event. TCSS is providing age-appropriate and relevant indoor educational opportunities.
