Thomas P. Steele

Mr. Steele was born January 19, 1947, in Columbia, SC to Bernice E. Steele and the late Thomas Pinkney Steele, Sr. He was a Professor of Theology at LaGrange College, retiring in 2010, as well as a retired LaGrange Hospice Chaplain. Mr. Steele was previously a member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church and was currently a member of Carrollton Friends Worship Group (Quakers).

He enjoyed traveling, reading and his vast religious studies. Mr. Steele will be remembered for starting the Nativity Lutheran Church in Brandon, MS.

Mr. Steele leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, Ellen Clegg Steele; his children, Jennifer (Kirk) Sanderson, Jason (Jenny) Steele, Susan Steele, and Polly Griesbach; grandchildren, Madelyn Bowman, Kadie Bowman, Jacob Bowman, Lillian Steele, and Evelyn Steele; mother, Bernice E. Steele; sister, Patricia (Mike) Raible; other relatives and friends.

A Life Celebration Service will be held 7 p.m. Friday, August 18, 2017 in the Chapel of Striffler-Hamby Mortuary with Chaplain John Evans and Mr. Marty Bray officiating.

The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until service time at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to JDRF – Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation or to Hospice LaGrange in memory of Thomas P. Steele.
