The Suffering Artist art gallery in Hogansville, will premiere a nature photography exhibit on Saturday from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Gallery owner Sarah Swanson said the event is the first one to feature only photographs.

“It’s a whole different category of art,” Swanson said.

The exhibit, Under One Sky: Eight Views of Nature, will display photographs from eight local artists, Swanson said.

“It’s a nature scene,” Swanson said. “This is our first strictly photography exhibit, so I’m pretty excited to see how it will turn out.”

Swanson said she has learned a lot from the artists since she does not take photographs herself, such as the mediums they use and how they price pieces.

“It’s different for me because I don’t do photography myself and most of the exhibits we’ve done are exhibits where I show along with them, so this is a learning experience,” she said. “I’m learning and they’re having a good time.”

Swanson said the idea for a photography exhibit came from one of her artists and the group participating decided to make the theme about nature.

“In all of the shows in the past, I just let the artists determine what they want their scene to be and in this case, it was a joint decision,” she said. “This was just the group that one of the artists got together.”

About 30 to 40 photos will be on display. Some of the artists will sell copies of their work at the gallery, Swanson said.

Swanson said the opening on Saturday is great not only for viewing the art, but also for the free food and interesting conversations.

“We hope that lots of people can come. We always have a good time at these shows,” she said. “It’s not just the beautiful art, but there’s always good conversations. They’re always a great turnout and a lot of fun.”

The gallery will hold the event at 311 Main Street in Hogansville. The exhibit will run through Oct.7.
