Cougars drop season opener

FAYETTEVILLE – The Lafayette Christian School Cougars opened the season with a 37-15 road loss to Solid Rock on Friday.

The Cougars scored first on a safety, but they found themselves trailing 25-2 at the half.

Solid Rock added another touchdown in the third quarter to go ahead 31-2.

Lafayette Christian kept fighting, and it scored two second-half touchdowns.

Landon Whitley threw a 45-yard touchdown pass to Cason Firth with seven minutes left in the third quarter.

In the fourth quarter, Firth took over at quarterback for Whitley, and he threw a scoring pass to another freshman, Nathan Karvales.

Whitley ran for 114 yards and threw for about 70 more, and Lueken had 104 yards on the ground.

Lafayette Christian will look to put one in the win column when it makes its home debut on Friday against Crisp Academ
