Election qualifiers began on Monday for the Nov. 7 municipal election.

Potential candidates have until the end of Friday to qualify, but several candidates got it out of the way and applied on the first day.

In LaGrange, Mayor Jim Thornton has once again qualified to run. James Arrington and Charles Pitts both qualified for District 1B, which is currently held by Councilmember Nick Woodson.

Woodson has said that he plans to step down after his current term.

Councilmember Tom Gore also re-qualified for his current seat representing District 1A.

In Hogansville, Marichal Price has qualified for Post 2.

In West Point, Mayor Pro-Tem Steve Tramell qualified to run for mayor. Tramell took on his current position after Drew Ferguson stepped down after winning the congressional election in November 2017.

Councilmember Gloria Ramsey Marshall qualified to run for her seat again.

John H. Morrison, Alanteo Henry Hutchinson and Tracy Jemar Bandy also qualified to run for seats on the West Point City Council.

City elections will be held on Nov. 7. Early voting will begin at the Troup County Government Center on Oct. 16.
