The Hogansville City Council voted Monday night to approve repairs to the city’s bucket truck.

The truck’s hydraulics had failed, making a repair an immediate necessity. The cost of the repairs to the truck will be $12,699, and they’ll be completed by Terex Utilities.

“It will not raise and lower period without these repairs,” said City Clerk Lisa Kelly.

The original bid for the repairs was over $16,000, but the city was able to negotiate the cost down. Kelly said the truck had not received any repairs in the last 10 years.

This is the only bucket truck the city has, Kelly said. She said Terex is the only company that does the work required in the southeast.

“If we want to keep this one up and running, we are going to have to expend, but the good news is it’s been 10 or 11 years since it happened last,” Kelly said.

The cost of the truck will be split between the electric department and street department, Kelly said.

Councilmen Georgia Bailey, Fred Higgins and councilwoman Theresa Strickland all voted in favor of the repairs. Councilman Reginald Jackson voted against the repairs, saying he wanted more information on the warranty for the vehicle.

Kelly said the warranty would not cover any electrical parts of the repair.
