On Tuesday night, the LaGrange City Council accepted a check from the Friends of the Thread for $11,125.

The funds will go toward maintenance of the trail and are the result of fundraising within the community and sponsorships for the project.

“We raised this money through our sponsorship program, and we are happy to bring this (to the city),” Friends of the Thread Director Natalie Hale said.

The city council also approved a maintenance funding and licensing agreement with the Friends of the Thread during the meeting. The council acknowledged the groups’ commitment to support on going maintenance of the Thread with active fundraising that is expected to fund 50 percent of the amenities on the trail. Amenities sponsored may include signs, pet waste stations, recycle stations and benches.

“They are out fundraising, and as you just saw, we were blessed to receive a check from them to help us with the maintenance efforts of the Thread,” City Manager Meg Kelsey said. “As it grows, we’ll need more of those efforts, so we appreciate the community supporting this project.”

According to the agreement, the Friends of the Thread will be forwarding donations and funds raised for maintenance of the trail to the city within 10 days of receiving the funds.
